A low mist hanging over the fields soon cleared into bright sunshine. My survey got off to an amazing start with a short-eared owl hunting over my first field on arrival followed by a fly over by two raven, the first recorded by me on this site.
Other highlights included a large female peregrine cruising over the fields and putting the flock of stock doves to flight, a merlin and two stonechat, after they were absent on the last survey. Linnet numbers have built up but are nowhere near the levels recorded last winter.
