Kate Carver Retires

As we prepared to say good bye to 2024, we also had to say goodbye to an incredible colleague, Kate Carver, retiring after 14 years with The Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs & Northants as the Great Fen's Project Manager.

In December, we were joined by colleagues past and present, partners and friends of the Great Fen, to celebrate all that Kate has done to bring this ground-breaking vision to life. Kate was presented with some beautiful gifts, including a marvellous handmade crane, a stunning serigraph print of wildflowers in the Great Fen from the very talented local artist Carry Akroyd and of course, the Lego badger from the big Great Fen Lego Build in 2017! Thank you to everyone who came to mark the occasion, for the beautiful and emotional speeches, and the biggest thank you to Kate. We wouldn't have achieved so much without you and you are going to be so greatly missed.

You can look back on some of the updates Kate has provided for us since the paludiculture trials began here

Kate's role as Project Manager is now assumed by Lorna Parker, previously Restoration Manager. Nicky Hennessy is now Project Officer, and David Metcalfe has been promoted to Nicky's previous role of Senior Reserves Officer.  This year we also welcome two new Peatland Progress team members, a Wet Farming Delivery Officer and a Wet Farming Engagement Officer. We'll introduce them very soon. Our congratulations to everyone on their new roles!
